Why did I want to be a Hairstylist?
I have been reminiscing lately of why I chose my profession.
She would tell me to sit in this funny looking chair with a large round dome hanging over my head. I used to sit on my knees and talk into the dome, I loved to hear the echo of my voice. Yep you guessed it. It was a hairdryer, I watched the ladies sitting under them with rollers in their hair. Then to see them getting their hair teased and the completion of their hairstyle was as I thought was "COOL".
Then in high school I took a class in archaeology I LOVED Egyptology! Learning about how they wore their hair and ornamentations they used in their hair and of course the Egyptian cosmetics.
They used green paint made of malachite, a copper carbonate pigment, and black kohl made of a substance called galena, a dark grey ore of lead. A big difference from today's cosmetics!
Being involved with the hair and makeup crew in plays at my high school really allowed me to bring out artistry in me that I didn't know I had.
After high school I told my parents I wanted to go to beauty school and as great parents as they were the encouraged me.
Being a hairstylist in the eighties was a blast BIG HAIR, MAKEUP GALORE.
Over the years I have evolved to the hairstylist that I am today. I appreciate every memory and moment in my career. I am looking forward to many more years to come!
See you at the Salon!
